Controlling and reporting on climate topics
Austria’s Platform for Transparency in Climate & Environmental Data
At a time when environmental and climate issues are gaining increasing social and political importance, easy access to reliable data is crucial. The Environment Agency Austria provides an innovative tool with the Austrian Reporting Platform, bundling transparent and standardized information on climate, waste management, groundwater, and other environmental areas. Publicly accessible dashboards allow citizens, businesses, and government units to retrieve up-to-date data at any time – a vital foundation for informed decision-making at all levels.
Quick Facts
How it works
The Austrian Reporting Platform also includes a range of applications in the environmental sector. The module developed by the Environment Agency Austria focuses on the transparent presentation of climate, environmental, and resource data through user-friendly dashboards.
The Austrian Reporting Platform is based on a modular dashboard system that presents key environmental and climate data in a clear, user-friendly format. The dashboards are made accessible via the website of the Environment Agency Austria and can be easily embedded into other platforms and content management systems using iFrame technology.
Examples include the Climate Dashboard, which visualizes current developments in greenhouse gas emissions, climate targets, and temperature trends; the Waste Dashboard, which provides comprehensive information on the generation, treatment, and transboundary movement of waste; and the Groundwater Dashboard, which displays national groundwater monitoring data.
The data is sourced from ongoing monitoring programs, official surveys, and scientific studies. Automated processing ensures the data are highly current and of high quality. Thanks to the platform’s open structure, additional topics such as air quality and emissions can also be integrated.
The Big Picture
The reporting platform makes a central contribution to the transparency and traceability of environmental and climate data in Austria. It not only supports public administration in meeting national and European reporting obligations but also strengthens environmental awareness among the population. By allowing dashboards to be easily integrated into external websites, access to reliable information is significantly improved – an essential component for a fact-based debate around climate and environmental protection.
At the same time, the platform serves as a showcase project for the digitalization of environmental reporting, which has often been fragmented or difficult to access. The Environment Agency Austria demonstrates impressively how modern information technology can connect transparency, participation, and sustainability.
