eTaxi Austria
Re-thinking the way we charge e-cabs
Driving an electrical taxi in Austria can be quite a challenge – parking spots are scarce, available charging stations even more so. As one of Austria’s main energy providers, Wien Energie (in cooperation with the Vienna Economic Chamber) aims to change that. The solution? A more simple and efficient way to charge electrical cars. Thanks to 10 new and innovative charging stations across Vienna and Graz, taxi drivers can now automatically charge their vehicles at regular taxi stands while waiting for new passengers – no more time-consuming search for a charging station required. This not only makes taxi drivers’ day-to-day business more efficient, but also saves valuable time, resources and energy.
Quick Facts
How it works
The project caters to taxi drivers as well as participating owners of electric cars, and is based on Matrix Charging Technology where power outlets are built into designated taxi charging stations, eliminating the need to search for available e-charging stations. All drivers need to do is park their car on one of the adapted taxi stands. Thanks to an innovative connector built into the car’s underfloor, the car automatically connects to the power station at the touch of a button and starts charging. This way, drivers don’t have to deal with charging cables and can use their time productively – or simply relax – as they wait for new customers to arrive.
The Big Picture
While eTaxi is a forward-thinking project to make electric mobility more accessible and attractive to taxidrivers in Vienna and Graz, it’s also an innovative cooperation between stakeholders rooted in the fields of economics, administration and science. Plus, it’s an effective climate protection measure, too: Because by transforming more and more regular taxi stands into e-charging stations, the eTaxi initiative plays a vital role in reducing both noise and carbon emissions – which goes a long way in effectively contributing to helping Austria reach its climate goals. For a cleaner, more sustainable future.
