fit4internet
Building digital skills across all age groups
The digital transformation is advancing rapidly, as recently demonstrated by the breakthrough of generative AI applications – not only for businesses or individuals, but also for institutions and governments. Since its foundation in 2018, fit4internet has been committed to driving the standardization, evaluation and certification of digital competence, helping thousands of people to develop and further their digital skills. The goal? Enabling all members of society to play an active role in shaping the digital transformation in Austria, irrespective of their age, occupation or socio-economic background. Something that not only positively impacts society as a whole, but also helps boost the country’s labor market and economic growth.
Quick Facts
How it works
fit4internet sets national standards for digital competence and education while also providing a platform for individuals to assess their digital skills according to DigComp AT, Austria’s digital competence model. Depending on their results, participants receive further information about suitable training opportunities bringing them one step closer to successfully improving their individual skillset – regardless of their current ability. fit4internet works to connect certified trainers and potential trainees, made possible by cooperations with education and training institutions like Enterprise Training Center (ETC) or WIFI Wien.
With over 30 self-evaluation tools (CHECKs & QUIZzes) and the certificates Dig-CERT and DigComp-CERT, both aligned with the EU standards DigComp and EQF, this needs-oriented digital education offensive has helped thousands of Austrians acquire digital skills, which in turn has been vital for driving digital transformation in the country. Since its founding, fit4internet has reached on average every second citizen in Austria with its products, services, and awareness-raising initiatives. Around 200,000 people have used the evaluation tools to assess their digital skills. By the end of 2025, approximately 15,000 people will have been certified in exam mode. And thanks to social events like "Kaffee digital" and "Smartphone Führerschein," thousands of digital beginners have been trained to navigate the digital world safely.
The Big Picture
Digitalization is arguably one of the biggest factors in today’s economic growth. In order for a country and its companies to effectively make use of this opportunity, digitally skilled workers are key. At the same time, retirees benefit from a much higher level of independence by joining the digital world and being able to stay in touch with their loved ones, manage their government affairs, buy necessities and more without needing to leave their homes. fit4internet is counteracting the lack of digital skills in both workforce and population as a whole by setting national standards for digital competence and education, applied in a practice-oriented manner, and shows citizens development opportunities based on their digital competence profiles.. All of which play a vital role in the digital transformation, and making Austria an even more attractive business location.
